Small Fry

As of the moment, Vincent Heller-Larue was on the bed, leaning against the headboard, with a bunch of pillows to support his back. The blanket was pulled up to cover the top of his humongous belly. He was eight months, three weeks pregnant, and was forbidden from getting up or moving too much unless he had to use the bathroom. The unborn baby was kicking as he typed on his phone, and he felt ready to burst.

He had resorted to using a blogging site so he could post and chat with the people who watched his show, Fantasy Fish, where he traveled around the world to catch the creepiest and rarest fish on the planet. He hadn't been allowed to do that since he had gotten pregnant, his husband forbade it, and the only fishing he had done was reaching into a bag of goldfish crackers. He could watch the fish in his fish tank, but that was as close as he was going to get to real fish.

His husband, Tadashi, was in the room, sitting at a desk and painting. Until yesterday, he had been working on the nursery and preparing it for the big day. He was painting something to put on the wall, some sort of scene. He had made a few other pictures to put on the walls, and this was the last one. Vincent was really pleased with how the nursery had came out, and while his husband was working in it, he would sometimes go in and put his opinions in. It was like he was nesting. Tadashi had to drag him out a lot before he could rearrange everything.

The final look met his standards and he stopped making trips in there to fix it. Tadashi had shot down a lot of fish related ideas, not really wanting the baby to be a miniature copy of Vincent. The baby could enjoy fishing when it got older, but he didn't not want them to be obsessed with fishing. If they wanted to memorize every single fish and liked reading books about them, fine, you couldn't get hurt doing that. In fishing, and especially in Vincent's fishing, one wrong grip on the fish could either send you to the hospital for a month or kill you. Vincent had been almost killed plenty of times, but luckily had gotten to a hospital quickly enough to be saved.

Tadashi was sure that was the cause of most of his stress and feelings of being old and worn out. He was a man in his prime, he shouldn't have felt like his father everyday. At least during the first few months of Vincent's pregnancy, he had felt pretty young. Perhaps after the baby was born he would feel young again. A tiny squirming baby was sure to ease his worries. Or add to them, he wasn't sure.

His phone vibrated and he saw that Vincent had posted something again. The phone always did that when the blond posted stuff. It was usually fish related so Tadashi ignored it a lot. Now, he used it to check how the blond was feeling. If he had upset him without knowing, he could easily find out because Vincent would post something about it, and then he could deal with the problem.

He looked at the post.

'As soon as the baby's born I'm taking them on lots of fishing trips!!' There were a few emojis after that. He sighed.

"Vinnie, the baby will be going nowhere near your fishing trips, especially not 'as soon as they're born'. You can take them to the pond down the street when they're four or five, not a day sooner."

His phone soon vibrated again.

'Tadashi said I can't nevermind' it was followed by a crying emoji.

The man rolled his eyes and went back to painting. He finished the painting soon and covered it with a clear wrap. He took it to the nursery and hung it up. Then he looked around. Perfect, the room was perfect. All it needed now was the baby. He returned back to the bedroom.

"Ah, Vinnie, do you need anything?"

"I'm hungry."

"What would you like?"

"Anything!"

"Ah, you have a craving for something, I can tell. What is it?"

Vinnie tapped his fingers together. He looked like he didn't want to say it. "Uhh... Really, anything will be fine."

"I will make you anything you're craving, you know that. No matter how messed up it is, I will."

Vinnie wouldn't meet his gaze, falling silent. He murmured something under his breath after a minute.

"Eh, I can't hear you. What are you craving?"

"Uh...uhh..." Tadashi made a 'go on' gesture. "Um...fi...fish..."

His husband stared at him. Of any food item, he was not expecting that. Vincent had never eaten fish in his life, he refused to. Tadashi hadn't had fish in years because of that. Vincent looked at the floor, his face flushed.

"Uh... Alright then, what kind do you want?"

"I don't want any! Just give me anything else!" The blond quickly said.

"Ah, but the craving-"

"Nope, nope, anything else. I'm not going to eat fish, not now not ever." He shook his head vigorously. There was no way in the world he would succumb to this craving. "Make me a ham sandwich or something like that. No fish."

"Ah, a fish sandwich then?"

"No!!"

"Heh, I'm just kidding. What do you want on it besides ham? Mayo, cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce like you usually have?"

The blond nodded. Tadashi went down to the kitchen to make that for him. Vincent rubbed his large belly, feeling the baby kick against his hand. He still couldn't believe how big he'd gotten. Like a big basketball was shoved underneath his tight shirt. Heck, he couldn't believe he was going to have a baby. He had never actually thought about having kids until Tadashi nervously brought it up nine months before. He was always too busy with his show and his passion. It gave him a lot of time to actually enjoy the other parts of life. He caught up with and visited his family for the first time in years, and they even went to his in-laws, who were more excited about the unborn child than they were.

He got to spend a lot of quality time with his husband, and they went out to restaurants and nice places often, or stayed home on the couch watching old corny movies and snuggling. Vincent didn't just ramble about fish anymore. He talked a lot, but it was about a multitude of things, the majority about baby related things but always other stuff. Tadashi told him a lot of stories about his childhood and what went on while he was gone on trips, and Vincent finally talked about what he did when he was younger that wasn't related to fishing.

Vincent couldn't wait for the baby to be born. He would do his best to make time for them instead of constantly doing his show. Having Tadashi being the sole parent and the kid hardly seeing him was not what he wanted. When he wasn't talking to his husband, he was thinking about all the things he would do with the baby, regardless of their gender. He'd be sure to bring them fishing with him and teach them how, but he wouldn't make them obsessed like him (unless it was of their own choosing, he would fully support it either way). It would be nice if they were like his husband. Just not completely like him. Tadashi was very quiet and awkward and stressed out. But having a kid that was super talkative like him might be a problem. So somewhere in between would be nice.

No matter how they turned out, he would love them anyways. His ravenette husband returned with the sandwich he wanted and saw him smiling goofily on the bed, cradling his belly.

"Ah, thinking about how the baby's gonna turn out?"

"Yeah!"

"Ever think about how they'll look?"

"It'd be nice if they took after me more than you in looks. I'm cuter."

"You don't want them to look like me?"

"If they take after you then they'll get taller than me! I don't want them to be taller than me! Or look manlier! Even if they're a girl if they take after you then they'll look more manly than me!"

"Oh. I guess the height is understandable. But I don't know... Maybe having a child my height would be fun."

"No!"

"I'd be able to stop reaching and carrying things for you when I'm old." That sounded very good.

"I don't make you reach for stuff! I've only done it lately because I'm pregnant and can't do it!" Vincent protested. Tadashi silenced him by sticking the sandwich in his mouth before he could continue. The blond glared at him and took it. Tadashi got onto the bed with him so he could rest his head on Vincent's belly. He rolled up his husband's shirt. Tadashi rested his head on the taunt skin.

The baby kicked even more. "The baby's really happy~"

"Or angry."

"Well they're inside of me so I think they're happy. Do you really think that something angry would be inside me?"

"I dunno... You get pretty mad when I ban you from some fishing thing."

"Oh come o-" Vincent moaned suddenly, pain startling him.

"Vinnie?!" Tadashi looked up at him, worried.

Vincent gave a forced smile, "Sorry... False contraction, bad one..."

"Ah, you sure?" The blond nodded. His husband relaxed and put his head against his belly again.
